London’s famous Notting Hill Carnival is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026.
The event has grown from its Caribbean roots into one of the world’s largest street festivals, attracting around two million people and generating an estimated £400 million for London’s economy each year.
The carnival’s history is deeply connected to Britain’s Caribbean community. Trinidadian activist Claudia Jones played a major role in creating the cultural movement from which the carnival developed.
Today, Jamaican, Trinidadian, Grenadian, Barbadian and other Caribbean traditions remain central to the celebration.
Music, colourful costumes, Caribbean food and dance bring together generations of British-Caribbean families as well as millions of visitors.
