With 2023 now underway, many households will be monitoring their finances and wondering what extra help might be on the way. New research has found 7.2 million households are going without essentials, 4.7 million are in arrears and over 3 million haven’t been able to keep their home warm for months because of rising energy bills.
In 2022, a package of cost-of-living measures included a £150 council tax rebate intended to be used for energy bills, plus the start of a £400 energy rebate delivered over six months, and a new Energy Price Guarantee putting a limit on gas and electricity tariffs and meaning an average family should pay no more than £2,500 a year.
