AI-Designed Medicines Company Raises £106 Million

Basecamp Research

A British biotechnology company developing medicines with the help of artificial intelligence has raised $140 million (£106 million) in a new funding round. Basecamp Research plans to use the money to continue developing treatments for diseases that currently have limited or no effective cures.

The London-based company combines AI models with biological data to search for potential new medicines. Researchers are also working on technology that can modify DNA inside cells.

The company says its approach could eventually help scientists develop treatments that encourage the body to repair itself. The project remains at the research and development stage, so any future medicines would still need extensive testing before they could be made available to patients.

The size of the investment highlights the growing interest in combining artificial intelligence with biotechnology. Investors are increasingly backing companies that use computing power to accelerate research into complex medical problems.

For Britain, the development adds to the country’s growing life-sciences and technology sector. The company will now use the new funding to expand its research programmes and work towards potential treatments for difficult diseases.
