IGBOTIQ – Echoes of Time: Europe’s First Igbo Historical & Cultural Art Exhibition

The West Midlands is about to experience the fascinating history of Igboland in a special art exhibition called IGBOTIQ: Echoes of Time. This one-of-a-kind event will be held at the prestigious Midlands Art Centre in Birmingham. It will display a stunning collection of replicated ancient Igbo artifacts and art from private collectors. The 2-day exhibition aims to promote cultural exchange and celebrate Igbo history. Organized with the Igbo Community Association in the Midlands, the event will transport visitors through time, offering a glimpse into Igbo culture and their ancient way of life.

IGBOTIQ: Echoes of Time will showcase a remarkable array of artifacts, each chosen for its historical and cultural importance. This includes bronze and brass sculptures, wooden masks, pottery, and other valuable objects that represent Igbo civilization and neighboring Nigerian cultures like Benin and Ife. Additionally, as part of Black History Month, the exhibition highlights the Igbo people’s creativity and contribution to African and British multicultural heritage. The displayed artifacts provide a visual journey into customs, beliefs, and traditions passed down through generations.

Chief Jonas Obodoefuna, Chairman of ICAM, says, “This exhibition is a unique opportunity to appreciate the artistic excellence and historical legacy of the Igbo people over thousands of years. We hope visitors will gain a deeper appreciation for Igbo cultural heritage and recognize its global importance.”

IGBOTIQ: Echoes of Time is open to the public, with free admission. The organizers encourage schools and community groups to visit for educational purposes and to promote cross-cultural understanding. This event aligns with the Midlands Art Centre’s commitment to showcasing diverse and historically significant collections from around the world, contributing to a broader global conversation about shared cultural experiences.
