There are successful role models within our community who started from
scratch and built successful businesses.
A BMW or Mercedes Benz can be owned by hard work, being a prosperous
businessman or woman, like many within our society. By getting a good education
and a highly paid job. You don’t need to deal in drugs or crime to drive one.
In the seventies and eighties, the myth was that black youths could not be
successful footballers. They can’t stand the cold and are only good at cricket
and athletics. That was a huge stereotype. Now look at how many
multimillionaire footballers there are around the world. Ian Wright, Cyrille
Regis (RIP), and John Barnes. To date there are also other successful young
footballers such as Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford to name a few.
Drive past most churches on a Sunday and you will see hundreds of smartly
dressed young men and women attending church. They are focused and determined
to live their lives in another narrative. Away from crimes or narcotics.
Let’s start now, today. Set good examples, be good role models for our
children. Help steer them away from crime. Education is the key to betterment.
