Discover Milk River Bath: Jamaica’s Historic Mineral Spa

Nestled in the southwestern corner of Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, Milk River Bath is a historic mineral spa that has been attracting visitors since its opening in 1794. Owned by the Government of Jamaica, this hidden gem boasts approximately six public baths and a cozy hotel with around 20 bedrooms, offering a serene retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Located just two miles south of the village of Milk River, the spa is situated where the Carpenter’s Mountains meet the Vere Plains. The mineral spring, known for its warm, therapeutic waters, emerges at the foot of a hillside, with the Milk River flowing just 100 meters away across the road. The spa claims its waters are more radioactive than those of other renowned spas, a unique feature believed to enhance their healing properties.

Accessing Milk River Bath requires a 12-mile journey south from the A2 road at Toll Gate. While the approach road can be challenging, with some badly potholed sections, it remains passable with care in a standard vehicle. For those seeking a blend of natural beauty, history, and wellness, Milk River Bath offers an unforgettable experience in the heart of Jamaica’s countryside.
